BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Lyon College Scots baseball team improved to 28-15 overall and 11-3 in the American Midwest Conference by defeating the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets 7-1 and 5-1 in a Friday afternoon double-header at Fred Wann Field.
In the first game,
Aaron Hurd tripled in the third inning to bring in
Joe Weatherford,
Troy Strack and
Kaden Doan for a 3-0 lead.
Jayden Cull singled in Hurd.
Weatherford hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth inning and
Chris Lara singled in West and Hurd for a 7-0 lead.Â
Clayton Burke pitched six innings and did not allow a run to pick up the win for the Scots. He had six strikeouts and no walks.
Calvin Hedgepeth picked up the save by pitching the seventh inning.
The Scots continued with the hot bats in the second game. Doan reached first on an error that scored
Alec White and Cull for a 2-0 lead.
Harris-Stowe added a run on a solo homer in the top of the fourth inning.Â
In the sixth inning, Strack hit a sacrifice fly to score Doan and Hurd hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Weatherford and
Derek Underwood for a 5-1 lead.Â
Ayden Heitmann picked up the win by going seven innings, giving up five hits and one run, while striking out eight.
Jordan Olivera came on to pitch the final two innings to earn the save.
