Scots baseball splits AMC double-header with Missouri Baptist

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Lyon College Scots baseball team split a double-header, losing 11-2 and winning the second game 10-3, against the Missouri Baptist Spartans on Saturday afternoon in American Midwest Conference play at Fred Wann Field in Batesville.

The Scots (18-12, 3-3) fell behind 2-0 in the first game. In the bottom of the second inning, Evan Hylek advanced to second on a wild pitch that scored Alec White from third base to make it 2-1. 

By the seventh inning, Missouri Baptist had an 11-1 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Aaron Hurd doubled in Kaden Doan.

In the second game, Hurd doubled in Troy Strack in the bottom of the third inning to give Lyon College a 1-0 lead. 

Missouri Baptist tied the game 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning, but Strack reached first on an error that allowed Chris Lara to score for a 2-1 Scots lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. 

Joe Weatherford reached first on an error that scored Trey West and Jayden Cull for a 4-1 lead. 

The Spartans (11-11, 4-2) got a run in the top of the seventh inning, but Lyon College got a run when Doan scored on a Cull single. 

Derek Underwood walked with the bases loaded to bring in Doan. Then Lara was hit by a pitch to bring in C.C. Burrup and Tristan Buschow was hit by a pitch to bring in Logan Doody for a 10-2 lead.

Next up for the Scots will be a road game at Henderson State University on Thursday night at 5 p.m.
