COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Lyon College Scots (16-11) baseball team split an American Midwest Conference double-header on Saturday afternoon 19-10 and 7-2 against host the Columbia College Cougars (18-4).
In the first game, Lyon College scored three times in the top of the first inning.
Joe Weatherford singled to right field to bring in
Troy Strack.
Aaron Hurd stole second and Weatherford scored on an error by the Cougars catcher.
Alec White doubled to center field and scored Hurd.
The Scots added two more runs in the top of the third inning when
Alan West doubled to center field to bring in Weatherford,
Tristan Buschow was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in Hurd for a 5-0 lead.
Columbia College scored one run in the bottom of the third inning, but Lyon College answered with a seven-run fourth inning.
West reached first on an error and Hurd scored.
Logan Doody reached on an error that brought in White and West.
Haydn Finley singled in Doody and
Hakeem Yatim. Weatherford walked to bring in
Zach Ellis and Hurd was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in
Derek Underwood for a 12-1 Scots lead.
The Cougars scored three times in the bottom of the fourth, but Lyon College added another run in the top of the fifth. Doody singled in White to make it 13-4.
After Columbia scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning,
C.C. Burrup tripled to right center to score Hurd and Underwood singled to right center to bring in Burrup for a 15-6 lead.
Columbia added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Lyon College answered in the top of the seventh with four more runs to go up 19-8.
In the second game, Columbia jumped out to a 7-0 lead through the first three innings.
Lyon College got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning when Buschow hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Underwood and Strack singled to center to score Ellis to make it 7-2.
The Scots will play at Bethel University in Tennessee in a double-header on Tuesday, March 22
nd beginning at noon.
