Scots split doubleheader with OKWU

Box Score BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College baseball Scots split a double-header with the ninth-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles on Tuesday night at Fred Wann Field in Batesville.
The Scots took the opener 17-8 and dropped the night-cap 9-4.

GAME 1
Alan West was the winning pitcher for Lyon College, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing seven runs (six earned) and eight hits with three strikeouts. Clayton Burke threw 3.2 innings and allowed one run on five hits and had five strikeouts.
The Eagles used seven pitchers in Game 1. Lyon took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning
Logan Doody led off with a single and Evan Hylek came in to pinch run for him at first base. West doubled to the gap in right center and Hylek advanced to third base on the hit. Aaron Hurd singled in Hylek. Hakeem Yatim hit a two-run single.
OKWU closed the gap to 4-3 by the bottom of the fourth inning, but Doody was hit by a pitch and Derek Underwood came in to run for him at first base. Hurd delivered a single to advance Underwood to third base and Zane Wallace was hit by a pitch. With the bases loaded, Yatim singled in another run and Jayden Cull walked with the bases loaded to score a run for a 7-3 lead.
The Eagles took an 8-7 lead, but the Scots scored four more runs to go up 11-8. Hurd reached on a two-base error by OKWU and two runs scored on the play, then Weatherford blasted a two-run homer over the centerfield wall for Lyon.
The Scots scored six more runs in the bottom of the sixth with Weatherford getting a two-run single and Yatim doubled in three runs. Tristan Buschow singled in Yatim to make it 17-8.
Hurd was 2-for-4 at the plate with two hits and three runs batted in. Weatherford was 3-for-4 batting with five RBIs. Yatim was 4-for-5 with six runs batted in and West was 2-for-4.
 
GAME 2
In the nightcap, Lyon College scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but dropped a 9-4 decision to the Eagles.
Ayden Heitmann suffered the loss for the Scots on the mound after going five innings and giving up two runs (one earned) and three hits. He had nine strikeouts and three walks.
Lyon trailed 8-0 when Jordan Olivera scored on a wild pitch and Wallace reached on an error that scored another run. West reached on a fielder's choice that saw Ellis and Buschow score to make it 8-4.
OKWU tacked on one more run in the top of the eighth-inning to make it a five-run game.
At the plate, Weatherford was 1-for-5, Buschow was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
