BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College Scots used a nine-run 10
th inning to come from behind and beat the Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles 20-11 on Wednesday afternoon in Texarkana.
The Scots (2-2) tied the game in the top of the ninth inning 11-11 when
Troy Strack reached first on an error and scored
C.C. Burrup. In the top of the 10
th inning, Lyon scored nine runs on three hits and three Eagles' errors.
Joe Weatherford led off the 10
th with a double to left field.
Aaron Hurd walked and
Zane Wallace reached on an error by the Texarkana shortstop. With the bases loaded, Zach Ellis walked in Weatherford and
Jayden Cull grounded out to second to score Hurd. After a strikeout,
Logan Doody walked, Strack singled to center to score Wallace and Ellis.
Alan West reached on an error by the Texarkana third baseman and scored Doody.
The Eagles made a pitching change and Weatherford was hit by a pitch to load the bases and set up a a second grand slam homerun from Hurd to make it a 20-11 game.
Hurd scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning when Doody was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. TAMUT scored four runs in the bottom of the second and held a 5-2 lead heading to the fourth inning. Lyon scored four runs to take a 6-5 lead. The Eagles came back to retake the lead in the bottom of the fourth 7-6.
Hurd powered his first grand slam in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game 10-10. Hurd was 3-for-4 at the plate with eight runs batted in on two homers and scored four runs. Weatherford was 3-for-6 with three runs scored and West was 2-for-5 with three runs scored to highlight the Scots offense.
Andrew Pitts got the win for the Scots on the mound going the last five innings. He struck out four batters and allowed one run.
