BATESVILLE, AR - The Lyon College baseball team makes its 2022 season debut this afternoon when they face off against Oklahoma Wesleyan University at 5:30 p.m. at Fred Wann Field.
OKWU is 5-0 on the season with a three-game sweep of Ecclesia (11-5, 11-2 and 8-5) and a double-header sweep of Baptist Bible of Missouri (18-1 and 17-1).  Lyon College was supposed to play in Bartlesville this past weekend against OKWU, but weather changed the plans.
OKWU features senior first baseman Cody Muney with a .467 batting average. In 15 at-bats, he has seven hits, scored five runs and has one double. Nicholas Chavez is a sophomore catcher for OKWU that averages .571 at the plate with two runs scored, four hits and two doubles in seven plate appearances. Seth Delgado is a sophomore catcher/first baseman and averages .500 in 14 at-bats. He has scored six runs, has two doubles and two home runs to go with seven runs batted in. Julio Goncalves is a sophomore infielder with a .357 batting average. He has six runs scored, five hits, two doubles, two home runs and nine runs batted in. Tommy Davis and Mason Brinkely also have triples for OKWU.
On the mound, Evan Foor is 1-0 with a 3.00 earned run average. He has struck out seven batters and allowed four hits and two walks in two appearances. Oracio DeLeon has a 3.00 ERA for OKWU and has seven strike outs against no walks and has allowed four hits.
Last season the OKWU won two meetings between the two teams, 11-5 and 3-1. For Lyon, Alan West started in right field, Haydn Finley was at first base, Jesse McGongial was the designated hitter, Troy Strack was the shortstop, Joe Weatherford was in left field, Jordan Olivera was at second base, Tristian Buschow was at third base, Evan Hylek was the catcher and Cameron Gordon was on the mound for the first game last season against OKWU.
