BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Lyon College Scots men's basketball team fell on Saturday morning to the visiting Arkansas Baptist Buffaloes 66-63 at Becknell Gymnasium.
The Scots (2-5) got 15 points from
Trenton Bell, 13 points from
Sando Hill, 10 from
Nikola SaSaroga, while
John Paul Morgan had eight points and seven rebounds in the loss. Lyon College scored 14 points in the paint, had 15 points off of turnovers, had 11 second chance points and got six points from their bench. The score was tied three times with four lead changes. The largest lead for the Scots was seven points at the 14:13 mark of the first half.
Arkansas Baptist led 4-0 before
Israel Palmer scored in the paint. Hill put in a layup and Bell knocked down a three-pointer to tie the game at 7-7. Bell put in consecutive layups and SaSaroga made a free throw. SaSaroga added tww more free throws for a 14-7 Lyon College lead, but Arkansas Baptist tied the game on a 7-0 run, 14-14. Two free throws from Palmer tied the game at 16-16, then Palmer put in a layup to tie the game at 18-18. The Buffaloes took the lead on a three-pointer, but SaSaroga put in a shot. Morgan scored in side and Palmer hit a three-pointer to put the Scots up 27-25. Arkansas Baptist tied the game on free throws, but
Luke Bridges got free inside for a short bank shot. The Buffaloes came back to tie, but Donovan Lewis put in a basket and Hill made a three-pointer to give the Scots a 34-31 lead after Arkansas Baptist tied the game at 31-31.
Arkansas Baptist took the lead early in the second half before Morgan scored for Lyon College. Bell added a layup, but the Buffaloes tied the game at 38-38 on a free throw. A jumper from SaSagroga was thwarted by a dunk from the Buffaloes to tie the game at 40-40. Hill followed that with a dunk and bell hit a jump shot before Arkansas Baptist made a three-pointer to take the lead. The Buffaloes led by five points before Hill made a three-pointer. Morgan scored inside twice and Hill put in two free throws, but Arkansas Baptist still led 55-53 with 5:17 to go. The Buffaloes led by six points when SaSaroga made a three-pointer. Bell completed a three-point play to make it a 64-63 game with 16 seconds to go, but Arkansas Baptist made two free throws to lead by three points. A last-second turnover cost the Scots a chance to tie.Â
