Scots women defeated by Missouri Baptist

ST. LOUIS, Missouri - The Lyon College Scots women's basketball team got behind by double-digits in the first quarter and trailed by more than 20 at halftime, ended up losing Saturday's American Midwest Conference game at Missouri Baptist 100-55 to the Spartans.

The Scots (1-3, 1-1) was led by Paige Tate with 13 points. Allison Byars had eight points, Autumn Enote scored eight points and Natalya Kaza finished with seven to lead Lyon College's scoring attack.

The Scots fell behind 26-12 by the end of the first quarter and were outscored 27-9 in the second period to trail 53-21 at halftime. By the end of the third quarter, Missouri Baptist led 79-37.

Lyon College committed 26 turnovers the ball stolen from them 17 times and the Spartans had 11 blocked shots. The Scots had 16 points in the paint, 12 points off of turnovers, 14 second chance points, two fast-break points and 20 bench points. 

MBU was up 3-0 before Mari-Hanna Newsom tied the game on a three-pointer to get Lyon College on the scoreboard. Erin Haigwood put the Scots in front 5-4 with 7:01 to go in the first quarter. It was the only lead for Lyon College in the game. From that point, the Spartans went on a 14-2 run to lead 18-7. The Scots trailed by 14 after the first quarter.

Kristen Baham put in two free throws to make it 30-14 at the 8:23 mark of the second quarter for Lyon's f points of the period. It was 35-14 when Byars made a three-pointer. Tate made a free throw with 5:31 to play for the Scots, but Missouri Baptist went on a 16-1 run to end the half leading by 32. 

That lead ballooned to 42 points by the midpoint of the third quarter, 68-26. Three minutes later, MBU led 77-30. The Spartans reached their largest lead with 1:27 to go in the game on a three-pointer to make it 98-50.
