Texas A&M-Texarkana defeats Lyon College women's basketball

TEXARKANA, TEXAS - The Lyon College Scots women's basketball team had trouble creating their offense against the Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles in a 90-53 loss at the Patterson Student Center in Texarkana on Saturday afternoon.

The Scots (0-2) were outscored 23-12, 22-12, 21-17 and 24-12 in all four periods. 

Kayla Richardson led Lyon College with 13 points and was the only double-digit scorer for the game. Paige Tate was next leading scorer for the Scots with seven points, while Kristien Baham, Mari-Hanna Newsom and Natalya Kaza scored six points each.

The Eagles were led in scoring by Lovietta Walker, who scored 18 points, Reneya Hopkins had 17 points, while Vasha Moore had 12 and Ashlei Lopez scored 11.

The Scots shot 45.8 percent and made only 3of-7 three-pointers. They also made 6-of-12 free throws. TAMUT shot 51.9 percent from the field and made seven three-pointers in the game. 

Lyon College was guilty of 25 turnovers and the Eagles had 18 steals.

The Scots scored seven points off of turnovers, had five second-chance points and got 18 points from their bench. TAMUT had 34 points off turnovers, 24 second chance points and got 35 points from its bench.

Texas A&M-Texarkana raced out an 8-0 lead before Tate could score for Lyon College. Tate scored again seconds later to make it 10-4. Savanna Lopez put in a free throw to get Lyon College as close as five points with 6:20 to go in the first quarter.
The Eagles quickly ran to their lead to 11 points. Lyon went on a five-point run, with scores from Richardson, a free throw from Baham and a jump shot from Allison Byars to make it a 19-12 game with 3:12 left in the first quarter. TAMUT scored the next four points to lead 23-12.

Texas A&M-Texarkana went on a 9-2 run to start the second quarter and lead 32-14, despite a hard-fought jumper from Richardson. Newsom drove the net for a side-armed basket on Lyon College's next possession. 
The Eagles led by 26 points, 45-19 with 1:48 to go before halftime. Autumn Enote hit a three-pointer for the Scots and Newsom made another acrobatic shot in the lane to cut the Eagles lead to 45-24. 

Out of halftime, Baham made a three-pointer, Lopez scored inside, Baham hit another jumper, Tate made a free throw, Newsome netted a jumper, Lopez put in a turn-around jump shot and Richardson put back in an offensive rebound for the Scots, but the Eagles led 61-38 with 1:43 to go in the third quarter.

TAMUT led by 40 points to different times in the fourth period. Kaza, Blake Green, Lopez and Enote all scored for the Scots in the final 10 minutes.
