Lyon College women's basketball team heads to Texas A&M-Texarkana

TEXARKANA, Texas - The Lyon College women's basketball Scots will take on the Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles this afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Patterson Student Center.

The Scots (0-1) closed a 15-point halftime deficit at College of the Ozarks to a a 77-76 game midway through the fourth quarter. Lyon College ended up losing the game 92-80, but was led by Paige Tate and Allison Byars with 22 points apiece. Kristen Baham and Mari-Hanna Newsom had 12 points each and Savanna Lopez came off the bench to score nine points in 12 minutes. The Scots shot 47.1 percent for the game and made 8-of-25 three-pointers. 

The Eagles (1-0) defeated Williams Baptist University on Thursday, Oct. 27 in Walnut Ridge 86-55. In that game, TAMUT was led by Reneya Hopkins 20 points, Lovietta Walker had 18 and Diamond Sweats came off teh bench to contribute 14 points in 17 minutes of action. The Eagles shot 48.6 percent from the field and made 9-of-22 three-pointers. 

Since that game, Texas A&M-Texarkana has played exhibition contests with Henderson State and at North Texas University. This afternoon's game against Lyon College will be the home-opener for the Eagles.
