BATESVILLE, Ark. - With two games left in the regular season, a win against the Stephens Stars would have been just what the Lyon College Scots volleyball team would need to host two games in the American Midwest Conference tournament that begins in two weeks.
However, the Scots (10-14, 4-4) will have to wait and see where the conference regular season ends before they find out what the tournament holds. On Saturday afternoon, Lyon College battled to a heart-breaking 3-2 loss to the Stars in Becknell Gymnasium.
The Scots were fourth in the AMC standings before playing Stephens College, but now have dropped to sixth place with Missouri Baptist and Harris-Stowe State left on the regular season schedule.
The Stars took the first set on Saturday 25-23, but the Scots fought back to win the second set 25-16. The third set went to Stephens College 25-15, but Lyon College rebounded with a 25-19 win in the fourth set. In the deciding fifth set, Stephens edged the Scots 15-12.
