The night for the Lyon College Scots didn't go as planned in a 71-68 loss to the 2-13 Harris-Stowe Hornets on Thursday night at Becknell Gymnasium.
The Scots were outscored 30-26 in the first half and four Hornets scored in double-figures with Jadakiss Williams leading the scoring with 14 points.
Ben Keton led all scorers with 22 points,
John Paul Morgan scored 16 points, had eight rebounds and four assists.
Grant Patterson scored 16 points and had two steals.
Trenton Bell scored nine points and had six rebounds and Erick Koludrovic scored four points and hauled in 10 rebounds for the Scots.
Lyon shot 44.7 percent from the field and made 5-of-15 three-pointers and hit 21-of-27 free throws.
The Scots fell behind 8-0 early on until Patterson made two free throws, then Morgan put in three consecutive baskets for a 8-3 lead. Patterson made another three-pointer after Morgan scored on a three-point play. With 7:01 left in the first half, Morgan hit a jumper in the lane to cut the Harris-Stowe lead down to one-point, 21-20. Keton hit a jumper to put Lyon ahead by one point, but the Hornets scored again to retake the advantage.
The Hornets took a five-point lead, until Patterson scored at the free throw line. However, Harris-Stowe made a three-pointer in the final seconds to take a 30-26 lead at the break.
Harris-Stowe went up by 11 points to start the second half. Bell put in a layup and made a three-pointer, Keton made a three-pointer and Morgan added two free throws. Keton made back-to-back three-pointers to close the Harris-Stowe lead to one point, 43-42.
Patterson put in a layup with 10:14 to go for a 50-47 Scots' lead. The Hornets tied the game at 50-50, then the game was tied again at 68-68 when Jamar Joseph made a long three-pointer. The Scots had a chance at a three-pointer just before the buzzer that rimmed out.
The Scots fall to 7-12 overall and 2-5 in the AMC. Harris-Stowe is 2-13 and 1-6 in the conference.
