Volleyball Falls in Four at FHU

The Lyon College volleyball team fell in four sets at Freed-Hardeman

HENDERSON, Tenn. The Lyon College volleyball team had its winning streak snapped at three games as the Scots fell in four sets on the road at Freed-Hardeman on Thursday night.

The Scots fell to 9-4 on the year following the loss, while Freed-Hardeman improved to 5-5.

The first set started back-and-forth between the Scots and Lady Lions until Freed-Hardeman broke a 14-14 tie and took a 20-15 lead. The Scots pulled back within three, 21-18, on an ace by Layla Wilson, but Freed-Hardeman took set one, 25-19.

Freed-Hardeman jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the second set but the Scots rallied back to tie the score at 16-16 on a block by Isabella Beasley and Samantha Ferguson. FHU quickly regained the momentum, however, and won set number two, 25-21.

Despite finding themselves behind, 17-12, in the third set, the Scots responded well and tied the game at 20-20 on a kill by Beasley.  A pair of errors by FHU gave Lyon a 22-20 lead, but the Lady Lions knotted the score at 22-22. A kill by Natalia Szymanska shifted the momentum back in the Scots' favor as Lyon won game three, 26-24.

Freed-Hardeman pulled away from a 7-7 tie in the fourth set and never looked back as the Lady Lions earned a 25-15 victory.

Charm Henderson, Paeton Tucker and Maria Eleni Bampiri all finished with nine kills each to lead the Scots offensively. Adia Sherbeyn recorded 22 digs, while Wilson led the Scots with 27 assists.

The Scots will have a quick turnaround as they will travel to Bethel on Saturday at 4 p.m.
