BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College women's soccer team came up short in its season opener on Saturday as the Scots fell by a score of 4-1 to Louisiana College.
Lyon College freshman goalkeeper Rhyan Hioki had a strong showing in her first collegiate game for the Scots as her 15 saves are tied for the eighth-most in a single match in program history. Hioki recorded 11 saves in the first half and four more in the second half.
Louisiana netted three goals in the first half and added a fourth goal in the second half. Sarah Evans scored her first goal of the season in the 62nd minute as she blocked an attempted clearance by the Wildcats' keeper and dribbled the ball into the back of the net.
Evans led the Scots with two shots, while Emma Brandes, Alli Mead and Yazmin Rodriguez all attempted one shot each.
The Scots will return to action on Sept. 4 when they take on the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 2 p.m. at Huser Field.
