BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College baseball team split its four-game series against William Woods as the Scots dropped the final two contests of the series on Sunday by scores of 2-1 and 9-1.

The Owls improved to 14-13 overall and 7-9 in the American Midwest Conference, while the Scots dropped to 15-19 overall and 10-10 in the AMC.

Game Three: WWU 2, Lyon 1

The Scots got on the board first in game three of the series as Troy Strack and Alan West got hit by a pitch to open up the bottom of the first. After a sacrifice bunt by Haydn Finley, Joe Weatherford brought home Strack on a sacrifice fly to right and gave the Scots a 1-0 lead.

The Owls answered back with a run in the top of the third on an RBI-double by Isaiah Gibbs and the score remained the same until the top of the ninth. After a walk and a sacrifice bunt by the Owls, Kamron Morriss drove in the eventual game-winning run with a single to center.

West took the loss on the mound despite a strong performance as he allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out 10 over nine innings pitched.

Logan Doody, Alec White, West and Finley all collected one hit each for the Scots.

Game Four: WWU 9, Lyon 1

William Woods jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the first inning before the Scots cut into the deficit with a run in the bottom of the fourth as Chris Lara came around to score on a wild pitch after leading off the frame with a double.

The Owls added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth and three more in the top of the seventh and took the series finale, 9-1.

Cameron Gordon suffered the loss on the mound as he allowed four runs (three earned) on two hits while striking out three over four innings pitched.

Lara finished 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Scots offensively.

The Scots will now prepare for a four-game American Midwest Conference series at Harris-Stowe next weekend.
