BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College softball team split with William Woods University on Saturday. The Owls won the first game by a score of 8-0, while the Scots defeated WWU, 6-0, in the second game.
Lyon improves to 12-22 overall, 7-7 in the AMC, while William Woods University is now 13-19, 6-8 on the year.
Game One: William Woods 8, Lyon 0 (5 Inn.)
The Owls opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as WWU's Mallory Feldeworth hit a two-run home run and Alexis Hassler delivered a solo home run, giving the hosts from Fulton, Mo. a 3-0 lead.
The Owls would tack on one more in the bottom of the second inning on an Ally Mahoney home run, extending WWU's advantage to four.
William Woods would score a pair of runs in the third inning and a run in each of the fourth and fifth inning, defeating the Scots by a score of 8-0 in game one.
Game Two: Lyon 6, William Woods 0
The Scots got on the board first in the top of the second inning as
Riley Shaw crushed an 0-1 pitch over the center field fence, giving Lyon a 1-0 lead.
The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Scots until the top of the sixth inning.
Kortanie Ruhland led off the frame with a single to center field.
Kassidy Robinson, then, followed with a bunt and reached on an errant throw from the WWU pitcher. With one out in the inning,
Cheyenne Herrera delivered a 2-RBI single, plating Ruhland and Robinson. After a
Riley Shaw single and stolen base,
Addison Harmon hit an RBI single, extending Lyon's lead to four. A 2-out 2-RBI single by
Katelyn Platt gave Lyon a 6-0 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.
The score would remain 6-0 in favor of the Scots as the game headed into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Katelyn Platt would make quick work of the Owls as she induced a groundout to earn the complete-game shutout and give the Scots a 6-0 win over WWU in game two.
Riley Shaw paced the Scots offensively as she went 2-for-3 in the contest, including a solo home run and two runs scored.
Katelyn Platt was dominant in the circle as she earned the complete-game shutout, while striking out a game-high six batters.
UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots conclude the regular season with a pair of home conference doubleheaders. Lyon will take on No. 11 Columbia College on Saturday and Stephens College on Sunday. The first pitch of each day is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
