Scots Split with Stephens College on Sunday

Lyon College Softball fell to Stephens College by a score of 6-3, before defeating the Stars by a score of 14-1 in game two

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College softball team split with Stephens College on Sunday. The Stars won the first game by a score of 6-3, while the Scots defeated Stephens College, 14-1, in the second game.

Lyon improves to 13-23 overall, 8-8 in the AMC, while Stephens College is now 8-16 on the year, 5-11 in AMC play.

Game One: Stephens 6, Lyon 3
The Stars opened the scoring in the top of the first inning on an Allyssa Wilmoth 2-run home run.  

The Stars would tack on one more in the top of the second inning on an RBI double by Olivia Williams, giving Stephens College a 3-0 lead.

Stephens College would score a pair of runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 advantage.

The Stars would scratch a run across in the top of the fifth inning on a Jamie Wittmer RBI single, scoring Taylor Ditzfeld and giving Stephens College a 6-0 lead.

The Scots would cut the deficit in half on a Kassidy Robinson bases-clearing double in the sixth inning.

Lyon, though, would be unable to get anything going in the bottom of the seventh inning and fell to Stephens College by a score of 6-3.

Game Two: Lyon 14, Stephens 1 (5 Inn.)
The Scots got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning on a solo home run by Kassidy Robinson.

In the bottom of the second inning, Madison Sansom delivered a single to left field putting runners on the corners with one out in the frame. Halley Gamewell picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice, doubling Lyon's advantage. After a Jasmine Carlos double put runners on second and third, Kassidy Robinson hit an RBI single into left field, scoring Gamewell. Riley Shaw, then, crushed a 2-out 2-RBI double over the center fielder's head, giving Lyon a 5-0 lead.

The Scots would bust the game open with a six-run third inning to give the hosts an 11-0 advantage. Cheyenne Herrera had a pair of singles in the frame. Jasmine Carlos laced a 2-RBI double, while Nadya Fernandez smacked an RBI single in the inning.

The visitors from Missouri would score a run of their own in the fourth on an RBI single by Anabel Throckmorton, making the score 11-1 in favor of the Scots.

Lyon, though, would tack on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Madison Sansom RBI double and Jasmine Carlos 2-run home run.

Olivia Floyd would retire the Stars in order in the top of the fifth inning, earning the complete-game victory and giving Lyon a 14-1 victory over Stephens College in game two.

The Scots were paced offensively by the top of the order as the 1-2-3 hitters in Jasmine Carlos, Kassidy Robinson, and Riley Shaw combined to go 8-for-11 in the contest with 10 RBI's and six runs scored. Olivia Floyd was dominant in the circle as she earned the complete-game victory, while striking out a game-high six batters.  

UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots conclude the regular season on Monday as Lyon will take on No. 11 Columbia College. The first pitch of the day is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
