Scots Prepare to Host Final Home Games of 2021

The Lyon College baseball team will host its final home games of its 2021 season this weekend against William Woods

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College baseball team will play at Fred Wann Field for the final time this season as the Scots will host William Woods in a four-game American Midwest Conference series this weekend. The Scots and Owls will play a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon beginning at 3 p.m. and conclude the series with another doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. The Scots will hold their annual Senior Day recognition between games during Saturday's doubleheader.

Spectators for Lyon College Athletic home events will be limited to Lyon College faculty, staff and students (must show Lyon ID), as well as two family members (including children) for Lyon College student-athletes competing at the event (must present card to enter). Gates open 30 minutes prior to the start of the first game each day. Masks must be worn at all times and fans must maintain social distancing. Single game tickets are $5 for ages 13+ while 12 and under are Free.

 

THE MATCHUP

The Scots improved to 13-17 overall and 8-8 in the AMC after winning three of their four games last weekend at Central Baptist College.

Jake Michener, Troy Strack and Joe Weatherford had a big series offensively for the Scots last weekend against CBC. Michener batted .643 (9-for-14), with one double, two triples and one home run. He drove in six runs and scored five times. Strack batted .579 in the series, going 11-fo-19 at the plate with nine RBI and three runs scored. Weatheford hit an even .500 (9-for-18), with three doubles, one home run, seven RBI and six runs scored.

This weekend's starting rotation on the mound for the Scots will likely consist of Lex Meinderts, Alan West, Marcelo Terrazas and Cameron Gordon. Meinderts is 3-6 with a 2.38 ERA and has struck out 60 batters in 45.1 innings pitched. West is 4-4 with a 4.40 ERA and has struck out 69 batters in 47 innings pitched. Terrazas is 3-4 with a 4.98 ERA and has struck out 44 batters in 43.1 innings pitched. Gordon is 2-0 with a 7.92 ERA and has struck out 16 batters in 25 innings pitched.

William Woods enters this weekend's series at 12-11 overall and 5-7 in the AMC. The Owls are coming off a 13-2 non-conference loss at College of the Ozarks on Apr. 6.

Isaiah Gibbs and Easton Wallace are the top two players for the Owls offensively this season. Gibbs is batting a team-high .378 (31-for-82), with 13 doubles, one triple, two home runs, 15 RBI and 24 runs scored. Wallace is batting .351 (26-for-74), with six doubles, five home runs, 17 RBI and 14 runs scored.

WWU will likely start Logan Bexten, Ryan Long, Dylan Hansen and Owen Tripp on the mound this weekend. Bexten is 2-1 with a 4.63 ERA and has struck out 23 batters in 35 innings pitched. Long is 2-3 with a 6.75 ERA and has struck out 21 batters in 21.1 innings pitched. Hansen is 3-1 with a 6.93 ERA and has struck out 30 batters in 24.2 innings pitched. Tripp is 1-2 with a 7.32 ERA and has struck out 10 batters in 19.2 innings pitched.

The Scots hold a 20-12 advantage in the all-time series against the Owls. Lyon swept a three-game series against William Woods the last time the two teams met on Feb. 24-25, 2019, in Batesville.

NEXT FOR THE SCOTS

Following this weekend's series against William Woods, the Scots will conclude their 2021 regular season with two conference road series. The first of the two final road series will be on Apr. 24-25 at Harris-Stowe.
