Scots Travel to Missouri Baptist for Four-Game AMC Series

The Lyon College baseball team will continue conference play this weekend at Missouri Baptist

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College baseball team will play its first American Midwest Conference road series of the year this weekend when the Scots travel to St. Louis, Mo., to take on the Spartans of Missouri Baptist. The Scots and Spartans will play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at noon and conclude the series with another doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon.

THE MATCHUP

The Scots enter this weekend's series with a record of 10-12 overall and 5-3 in the AMC after winning three of their four games against Williams Baptist last weekend.

Alan West leads the Scots offensively with a .353 batting average entering this weekend's series at Missouri Baptist. West is 24-for-68, with seven doubles, one triple and one home run. He leads the team with 18 RBI and has scored 10 times. Jake Michener leads the Scots with 13 runs scored this season.

This weekend's starting rotation on the mound for the Scots will likely consist of Lex Meinderts, Alan West, Marcelo Terrazas and Cameron Gordon. Meinderts is 2-5 with a 2.73 ERA and has struck out 49 batters in 33 innings pitched. West is 4-2 with a 3.25 ERA and has struck out 58 batters in 36 innings pitched. West tossed a four-hit, complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts in his last outing on the mound against Williams Baptist. Terrazas is 2-3 with a 4.60 ERA and has struck out 34 batters in 31.1 innings pitched. Gordon is 1-0 with a 6.27 ERA and has struck out 13 batters in 18.2 innings pitched.

Missouri Baptist enters this weekend's series with a record of 12-9 overall and 5-3 in the AMC. The Spartans won three of their four games last weekend in their series against Hannibal-LaGrange.

Kyle O'Brien, Treyton Steffler and Manny Garcia are the top three hitters in the Spartans' lineup entering this weekend's series. O'Brien leads the team in batting average (.355), home runs (8) and runs scored (23). Steffler leads MBU in hits (29) and RBI (25) and is batting .349 on the season. Garcia is also batting above .300 at .338.

Missouri Baptist will likely start Josh Sieglitz, Masen Palmier, Billy Heil and Matthew Hess on the mound this weekend. Sieglitz is 4-0 with a 1.37 ERA and has struck out 28 batters in 19.2 innings pitched. Palmier is 2-2 with a 2.97 ERA and has struck out 30 batters in 33.1 innings pitched. Heil is 2-2 with a 3.48 ERA and has struck out 31 batters in 31 innings pitched. Hess is 3-0 with a 4.88 ERA and has struck out 24 batters in 24 innings pitched.

Following this weekend's series at Missouri Baptist, the Scots will play a four-game AMC series at Central Baptist College on Apr. 9-10.
