ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Lyon College men's soccer team used a pair of first-half goals and three second-half goals to defeat the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis on Saturday by a score of 5-1.
Lyon moves to 2-2-1, 1-0 in the AMC, while UHSP falls to 2-7, 0-6 in the AMC.
GAME FLOW
The match remained scoreless until the 19
th minute.
Carlos Carvalho struck a shot under the outstretched arms of the goalie, giving Lyon a 1-0 lead. Just five minutes later,
Marcos Fernandez beat the keeper and slid a pass to
Tavaris Wellington. Wellington tapped the ball into the net, doubling Lyon's advantage. The score would remain 2-0 in favor of the Scots after 45 minutes of action.
In the second half, the Scots picked up where they left off as Carvalho delivered a nice pass to Wellington. Wellington, then, beat the goalie with a shot into the lower left portion of the net, giving Lyon a 3-0 lead. In the 72
nd minute, Wellington sent a cross into the box.
Matias Lopez controlled the pass and delivered a shot into the lower left portion of the goal, giving Lyon a 4-0 advantage. Each side would score a goal in the final two minutes of the match as UHSP's Grant Woodard and Lyon's
Leo Galdino struck shots into the back of the net, giving Lyon a 5-1 victory over UHSP on Saturday.
