ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Lyon College volleyball team lost a nail-biter to the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis before sweeping Harris-Stowe State University this afternoon.
Lyon improves to 8-11 on the season and 3-4 in the American Midwest Conference. UHSP moves to 13-11 on the year and 6-2 in conference play, while HSSU falls to 1-9 overall and 0-8 in AMC action.

After each squad exchanged victories in the first two sets, the Scots took a 15-12 lead midway through the third set on a
Kaitlyn Jackson kill. The Eutectics fought back and used a 4-0 run to knot the match at 24 apiece. However, a kill from
Maria Eleni Bampiri and block from
Kaitlyn Jackson gave Lyon the third-set victory, 26-24, and a 2-1 lead in sets.
The fourth set was another tightly contested frame as the sides were tied, 16-16. UHSP, though, would take a small lead in the later stages of the set, 23-19. The Scots regained their composure and rallied to tie the match at 24 apiece after a kill from
Alley Edwards, assisted by
Kendra Davidson. The Eutectics, though, found a late surge to take the fourth set, 28-26, and force the all-decisive fifth set.
In the fifth set, the Eutectics sprinted out to a 5-0 advantage over the visitors from Batesville. The Scots tried to get back into the set, but the early deficit proved to be too much as UHSP won the fifth set, 15-8, and match, 3-2.
Harris-Stowe State University
In the first set, a Katelyn Vandlingham kill broke the 10-10 tie and began a 5-0 run to help the Scots take a 15-10 lead over the Hornets. Lyon continued to cruise to a first-set victory, 25-16.
The Scots used another run to widen the gap over HSSU in the second stanza. With Lyon trailing, 14-13, the Scots scored seven unanswered points to take a 20-14 advantage. The run was capped off by one of
Maria Eleni Bampiri's five kills in the contest. The visitors continued to impose their will on the Hornets as the Scots earned a 25-20 second-set victory.
The Scots displayed their endurance late in the third set as Lyon finished the frame on a 9-2 run to clinch the third set, 25-13, and complete the sweep over the Hornets.

WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots will return to the court Apr. 1 as Lyon welcomes Williams Baptist University to Becknell Gymnasium. The conference test between the Scots and Eagles will begin on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
