MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Lyon College volleyball team squared off against Bethel University tonight for the second time in a week. Lyon fought hard in this road matchup, but came up short as Bethel University defeated the Scots in straight sets.
Lyon moves to 6-9 on the year, while Bethel University improves to 7-9 on the season.
GAME FLOW
Bethel took a small lead through the early stages of the first set. A kill by Levia Taegtmeyer, assisted by Kaitlyn Jackson, brought the Scots to within two points at 12-10. The Lady Wildcats, though, would slowly extend their lead the remainder of the set as BU took the first set, 25-18.
The Scots and Lady Wildcats exchanged points throughout the majority of the second set until the score was tied at 18 apiece. Then, Bethel University rallied for seven consecutive points to win the second set by the same score as the first stanza, 25-18.
In the third frame, Madison James gave the Scots an early advantage with one of her six kills on the night, off an assist from Kendra Davidson. Bethel, though, would answer and secure 10 of the next 14 rallies to take a 15-10 lead. Lyon got as close as two points, but could not get over the hump as the Lady Wildcats won the third set, 25-17, to sweep the visitors from Batesville.
KEY STATISTICS
- Adia Sherbeyn registered a team-high 13 digs in the non-conference contest.
- Kaitlyn Jackson (14) and Kendra Davidson (9) combined for 23 assists in the match.
- The Lady Wildcats accounted for 20 more kills and 19 more digs than the Scots.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots will travel to Mississippi for a road contest against Blue Mountain College tomorrow. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
