HANNIBAL, Mo. – The Lyon College volleyball team continued their strong play as the Scots earned a three-set victory over Hannibal-LaGrange University this afternoon.
With the win, Lyon improves to 6-8 on the season and 2-2 in the American Midwest Conference, while Hannibal-LaGrange University drops to 5-10 on the year and 3-5 in conference play.
GAME FLOW
In the first set, the Scots took an early 10-6 lead after a kill by Stephanie Tucker, assisted by Kendra Davidson. The visitors from Batesville continued to extend their advantage as the Scots used a 15-6 run to close the set. A kill by Kendra Davidson, assisted by Paeton Tucker, clinched the first-set victory for Lyon, 25-12.
A block by Alley Edwards in the early stages of the second set gave the Scots a five-point advantage, 10-5. Lyon continued to widen their lead and won the set, 25-12, on one of Levia Taegtmeyer's eight kills in the contest.
The third set was very similar to the first two frames as the Scots continued to impose their will against the Trojans. The Scots cruised to their third consecutive 25-12 victory to complete the sweep.
KEY STATISTICS
- Kaitlyn Jackson paced the Scots with a match-high 20 assists.
- Levia Taegtmeyer and Alley Edwards each recorded eight kills in the contest.
- Adia Sherbeyn notched a team-high 14 digs.
- The Scots dominated HLG in kills, 34-14.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots have a rematch with Bethel University on Mar. 22 before traveling to Mississippi for a test against Blue Mountain College the following day. The match against Bethel University is set for 4:00 p.m., while the Blue Mountain College contest will begin at 6:00 p.m.
