CONWAY, Ark. – The Lyon College volleyball team looked dominant tonight as the Scots cruised to a three-set victory over Central Baptist College (25-14, 26-24, 25-17).
Lyon improves to 5-8 on the season and 1-2 in the American Midwest Conference, while Central Baptist College falls to 10-10 on the year and 3-4 in conference play.
GAME FLOW
The Scots jumped out to a quick 8-1 lead in the first set. Lyon would continue to extend their lead and took the first set, 25-14.
In the second stanza, the Mustangs and visitors from Batesville exchanged small leads until Central Baptist College took a late 24-23 advantage. The Scots, though, would quickly fight off the set point on one of Alley Edwards's nine kills on the evening. The Scots would continue the momentum from the kill and close out the set, 26-24.
With the score tied at 5 apiece in the early stages of the third frame, Alley Edwards and Kendra Davidson each recorded a kill to push Lyon's lead to two points. The Scots would continue to hold a two-point advantage over the Mustangs until the visitors from Batesville went on a 5-0 run to take a 17-10 advantage. The Scots continued their impressive play as they cruised to a 25-17 third-set victory to complete the sweep of the Mustangs.
KEY STATISTICS
- Alley Edwards and Madison James each recorded nine kills in the contest. James added a team-high four blocks as well.
- Paeton Tucker (15), Adia Sherbeyn (13), and Stephanie Tucker (12) each tallied double-digit digs in the victory.
- Lyon overpowered CBC in blocks, 10-2, and kills 37-29.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots will continue conference play with a road contest against Hannibal-LaGrange University on Saturday. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. in Hannibal, Missouri.
