NEW ORLEANS, La. – The 14th-ranked Lyon College baseball team dropped its series opener at Loyola University New Orleans by a score of 11-2 on Friday night.
Loyola New Orleans improved to 11-8 on the season, while Lyon dropped to 5-7.
After a quiet first two innings by both teams, the Scots broke the scoring column first in the top of the third frame. Logan Doody singled with one out in the inning before Troy Strack hit a two-out single to put two runs on. Alan West plated the first run of the game with an RBI-single to right and gave the Scots a 1-0 lead.
The Wolf Pack responded back with two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings and added another run in the bottom of the sixth.
The Scots added another run in the top of the seventh on an RBI-single by Strack, but Loyola New Orleans pushed across another run in the bottom half of the frame and five more runs in the eighth.
Strack, West and Jordan Olivera all collected two hits each for the Scots.
West suffered the loss on the mound as he allowed five runs on nine hits over six innings pitched with 11 strikeouts.
The Scots and Wolf Pack will conclude their series with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m.
