No. 14 Scots Prepare for Three-Game Series in New Orleans

The 14th-ranked Scots will play a three-game series at Loyola University New Orleans this Friday and Saturday

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The 14th-ranked Lyon College baseball team travel to Louisiana for the second time this season as the Scots will face Loyola University New Orleans in a three-game series this Friday and Saturday. The Scots and Wolf Pack will play a night game at 6 p.m. on Friday and conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

THE MATCHUP

The Scots are coming off a four-game series sweep of Champion Christian College last weekend and enter their series against Loyola New Orleans with a record of 5-6 overall.

Alan West and Troy Strack enter the weekend as the top two batters in the Scots' lineup. Both players lead the Scots with eight hits each this season. West has hit three doubles and one home run. He has seven RBI on the season and scored four times. Strack has hit two doubles and one triple and has four RBI and five runs scored.

The Scots will likely go with Lex Meinderts, West and Marcelo Terrazas as their starting rotation this weekend. Meinderts is 1-3 with a 1.69 ERA. He has struck out 26 batters over 16 innings pitched. Meinderts was named as the American Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week after throwing a three-hit, complete-game shutout with a career-high 12 strikeouts in his last outing against Champion Christian. West is 2-1 with a 3.50 ERA and has struck out a team-high 29 batters in 18 innings pitched. Terrazas is 1-2 with a 4.11 ERA and has struck out 15 batters in 15.1 innings pitched.

Loyola New Orleans enters this weekend's series at 10-8 overall.

The Wolf Pack are led offensively by Payton Alexander and Michael Calamari. Alexander is leading the team with a .397 batting average (27-for-68), with five doubles, two triples and four home runs. He leads the team with 22 RBI and 27 runs scored. Calamari is batting .385 (20-for-52), with five doubles and two home runs. He has 13 RBI this season and seven runs scored.

Loyola New Orleans will likely start Brenden Taravella, Stephen Still and Brett Fisackerly on the mound this weekend. Taravella is 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA. He has struck out 22 batters over 18.2 innings pitched. Still is 0-2 with a 3.20 ERA. He has struck out 20 batters over 19.2 innings pitched. Fisackerly is 2-1 with a 4.26 ERA. He is tied with Taravella for the team lead with 22 strikeouts this season in 19 innings pitched.

NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
Following this weekend's series at Loyola New Orleans, the Scots will open up American Midwest Conference play at home with a four-game series against Columbia College on Mar. 20-21.
