(RV) Lyon Edged in Pair of Games against FHU on Tuesday

(RV) Lyon College Softball fell to Freed-Hardeman University on Tuesday, 2-0 and 3-0

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The (RV) Lyon College softball team fell to Freed-Hardeman University, 2-0 and 3-0, in a non-conference doubleheader.

(RV) Lyon moves to 3-3 on the season, while this was the first two games of the season for Freed-Hardeman University.

Game One: Freed-Hardeman 2, (RV) Lyon 0
The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning, FHU's Annalise Jarnigan led off the frame with a single. Jarnigan would come around to score on a one-out single by Cassie Hayes. Hayes would score later in the frame, giving the Lions a 2-0 advantage.

The Scots would attempt to respond in the top of the seventh inning as Kortanie Ruhland led off the frame with a single. FHU, though, would turn a quick double play and the Scots ultimately fell to FHU by a score of 2-0.

Lyon was led in the circle by Katelyn Platt. Platt threw all six innings, while giving up one earned run and striking out five.

Game Two: Freed-Hardeman 3, (RV) Lyon 0
Freed-Hardeman University got on the board first as Kennedy Harris delivered a one-out triple in the bottom of the first inning. Harris came around to score on a sac fly by Annalise Jarnagin, giving the Lions a 1-0 advantage.

The Scots attempted to knot the game at one as Lyon drew a pair of walks to put runners on first and second with two outs in the fifth inning. FHU, though, induced a popout to end Lyon's threat.

The Lions would tack on two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as Caitlin Mitchell delivered a 2-RBI single, giving FHU a 3-0 lead.

Cheyenne Herrera laced a double to left center in the top of the seventh inning, but the Scots could not string any other hits together and fell to FHU by a score of 3-0.

Offensively, Olivia Floyd paced the Scots. Floyd went 1-for-2 with a walk in the contest, while McKenzie Campbell led Lyon in the circle as she threw all six innings, while giving up three earned runs and striking out one.

UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots will return home to host Central Methodist University for a doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 14. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
