(RV) Lyon Drops Pair of Games to Bethel

Lyon College Softball fell to Bethel University on Tuesday, 10-1 and 16-6

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The (RV) Lyon College softball team fell to Bethel University, 10-1 and 16-6, in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday.

(RV) Lyon moves to 3-5 on the season, while this was the first two games of the season for Bethel University.

Game One: Bethel 10, (RV) Lyon 1 (5 Innings)
The Bethel University Wildcats sent 14 batters to the plate in the first inning, while scoring 10 runs in the frame. Melanie Alexander led the way for the Wildcats as she hit a solo shot and 2-run home run in the first inning.

The Scots would attempt to respond in the top of the sixth inning as Sabrina Lowe crushed a solo home run over the left field fence. However, the Scots were unable to get anything else going and fell in the first game of the doubleheader, 10-1.

Lyon was led in the circle by Shyanne Pedroza. Pedroza threw three and 1/3 scoreless innings, while striking out two.

Game Two: Bethel 16, (RV) Lyon 6
Bethel University got on the board first as the Wildcats put up five runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Scots would answer back with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Jasmine Carlos's one-out double was followed up by a Faith Cornmesser RBI single. Nadya Fernandez, then, scored Cornmesser on an infield single to third, cutting Lyon's deficit to three.

After the Wildcats scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, Lyon again responded with a crooked number in the top of the third inning. Cheyenne Herrera delivered a one-out RBI single, scoring Kassidy Ramirez. After a Jasmine Carlos single, Kortanie Ruhland slashed a single to right field, plating Herrera and Carlos, trimming Bethel's lead to two. Faith Cornmesser, then, delivered another RBI single, putting Lyon down just one after two and a half innings of play.

Bethel, though, would respond with four runs in the bottom of the frame and five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, giving the Wildcats a 16-6 victory over the Scots.

Offensively, Faith Cornmesser and Cheyenne Herrera paced the Scots. Cornmesser was 2-for-3 in the contest with a pair of RBI's and a run scored, while Herrera registered two hits in the game, while tallying one RBI and one run scored.

UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots will return to action on Friday for the Lyon College Tri-Match. Lyon will take on William Penn University and No. 14 Olivet Nazarene University on Feb. 26. The Scots will face each team on both Friday and Saturday.
