BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – The 14th-ranked Lyon College baseball team dropped its first game of the weekend in Bartlesville, Okla., to Oklahoma Wesleyan, 11-5, on Saturday evening.
The Scots fell to 0-5 on the season, while OKWU improved to 10-2.
The Eagles struck first with a pair of runs in the opening frame before the Scots doubled up in the top of the second. Joe Weatherford, Jordan Olivera, Tristan Buschow and Evan Hylek all singled to open up the frame to score a run before Olivera scored later in the frame on a wild pitch to tie the score at 2-2. After a walk by Alan West, Haydn Finley doubled to plate two more runs and gave the Scots a 4-2 lead.
OKWU regained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third before the Scots tied the game at 5-5 with a run in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Troy Strack.
The Eagles responded with six runs in the bottom of the fourth and took the game, 11-5.
Finley, Weatherford, Olivera and Buschow all collected two hits each for the Scots.
Marcelo Terrazas suffered the loss as he allowed six runs on nine hits over 3.1 innings pitched.
The Scots will play Peru State College tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. before wrapping up the weekend with a rematch against OKWU later in the day at 4 p.m.
