BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – The 14th-ranked Lyon College baseball team split its final two games of its weekend trip to Oklahoma as the Scots defeated Peru State College, 3-1, before falling to Oklahoma Wesleyan by a similar score of 3-1.
The Scots moved to 1-6 on the season following the split today.
Game One: #14 Lyon 3, Peru State 1 (7 Inn.)
The Scots put across two runs in the bottom of the first inning before adding an insurance run in the bottom of the third. Peru State cut into the Scots' lead with a run in the top of the fifth, but that would be all starting pitcher Alan West would allow as he earned the complete-game victory on the bump.
West also collected one hit, drove in a pair of runs and scored once offensively. Haydn Finley drove in the other run for the Scots.
Game Two: OKWU 3, #14 Lyon 1 (7 Inn.)
The Eagles scratched across three runs between the first two innings before the Scots scored their lone run of the game in the top of the sixth on an RBI-groundout by Finley as OKWU took the nightcap, 3-1.
Finley collected the lone hit in the game for the Scots.
Lex Meinderts suffered the loss on the mound as he allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out eight over six innings pitched.
The Scots are scheduled to return home and host a four-game series against the University of Northwestern Ohio this Saturday and Sunday. First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is set for noon.
