Top-Seeded Scots Host WWU in AMC Championship Quarterfinals

The top-seeded Lyon College women’s basketball team will host No. 8-seed William Woods on Wednesday in the Quarterfinals of the AMC Championship

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College women's basketball team clinched its second consecutive American Midwest Conference Regular Season Championship this past Saturday with a 66-39 victory over Harris-Stowe. The Scots now have their sights set on their second AMC Tournament Championship in program history as Lyon enters as the top seed. Lyon will host No. 8-seed William Woods on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at Becknell Gymnasium.

Effective Monday, February 8: No family members, students, faculty, or staff members are allowed to attend competitions and practices until further notice. Spectators cannot attend indoor or outdoor events on campus.

THE MATCHUP

LYON: The Scots won their fourth AMC Regular Season Championship with a record of 10-1 on the year. Jade Giron and Paige Kelley served as a one-two punch for the Scots throughout the regular season as the duo are the top two scorers for Lyon offensively. Giron led the team at 20.8 points per game, while Kelley averaged 15.6 points per game in her first collegiate season. Kelley edged out Giron as the top rebounder for the Scots with 8.5 rebounds per game, while Giron averaged 8.4. Giron also averaged 5.8 assists per game and 2.5 steals per game during the regular season.

WWU: William Woods defeated No. 9-seed Hannibal-LaGrange, 68-55, on Monday night in the Opening Round of the AMC Championship and improved to 5-11 on the season. Natalie Thomas has been the go-to player all year for the Owls as she is leading the team with 15.5 points per game. The freshman guard scored a season-high 27 points three times this year. In the lone matchup against the Scots this season, Thomas scored 15 points on 5-of-18 shooting from the field.


SERIES HISTORY

The Scots hold a 19-3 advantage in the all-time series after defeating the Owls, 56-47, earlier this season on Jan. 16 in Batesville.


UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS

The winner of Wednesday's contest between the Scots and Owls will move on and face the winner of No. 4-seed Williams Baptist and No. 5-seed Harris-Stowe on Friday in the Semifinals of the AMC Championship. Friday's semifinals will be hosted by the higher seed in the matchup.
