PARAGOULD, Ark. – After dropping the first two sets of the match, the Lyon College volleyball team tried to complete the comeback tonight on the road against Crowley's Ridge College. However, the Scots came up just short (22-25, 24-26, 25-16, 25-14, 8-15).
Lyon moves to 1-2 on the season, while Crowley's Ridge College improves to 2-12 this year.
GAME FLOW
After dropping the first two sets of the match, 25-22 and 26-24, the Scots came out firing in the third stanza. Lyon sprinted out to an early 11-3 advantage following a Maggee Hobson kill, assisted by Kendra Davidson. The Lady Pioneers cut into the lead, 16-11. However, the Scots were up to the challenge as they extended their lead and finished off the set on a Paeton Tucker kill, 25-16.
Both teams exchanged leads in the early stages of the fourth set. With the score tied at seven apiece, the Scots used a 9-1 run capped off by one of Maggee Hobson's 19 kills to push their lead to 16-8. Lyon continued to impose their will on the Lady Pioneers and tied the match at two sets apiece after a Madison James kill.
In the pivotal fifth set, CRC jumped out to an early 7-1 lead. The Scots tried to cut into the lead, but the Lady Pioneers proved to be too much for the visitors as CRC finished off the set, 15-8, to defeat Lyon.
KEY STATISTICS
- Maggee Hobson and Kaitlyn Jackson each recorded double-doubles. Hobson had 19 kills and 23 digs, while Jackson tallied 25 assists and 22 digs.
- Adia Sherbeyn tallied a match-high 44 digs in the match.
- Madison James registered 17 kills, while Erin Haigwood added 23 digs in the contest.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SCOTS
Tomorrow, Lyon will host a tri-match inside Becknell Gymnasium against Freed-Hardeman University and Philander Smith College. The Scots will battle FHU at 6:15 p.m. and PSC at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
