Jade Giron scored 21 points to lead the Lyon College Scots to an 82-39 win over LSU Alexandria at Becknell Gymnasium on Wednesday afternoon on Elementary Students Day at the game.
Mari-Hanna Newsome added 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting on three-pointers, Paige Kelly had 10 points on 4-of-5 field goals and two free throws to go with six rebounds to lead the Scots.
Allison Byars added eight points, as did
Haley Wesley. Twelve Lyon players scored in the game.
Byars opened the game with a three-pointer with an assist from Newsome.
Katie Turner put in a basket inside, then after a couple of free throws from Byars, Giron hit a jumper for Lyon. Giron put in a layup and passed to Kelley for a basket.
Kristen Baham hit a three-pointer for the Scots, Giron made two free throws and
Haley Wesley made a layup. Giron made two more free throws to highlight the first quarter for the Scots, who led 21-10.
In the second period, Giron started with a drive through three LSU players for a basket. Turner put in a layup with assist going to Byars on the play.
Marleigh Dodson came up with a layup and Newsome hit a three-pointer for Lyon. Dodson made a steal and sank two free throws, and
Kayla Richardson made steal just before halftime as the Scots led 34-17 at halftime.
Kelley started the second period with a jumper for Lyon. Newsome made three three-pointers in a row with assists going to Byars and Baham that opened up a 17-point margin. Kelley made another jumper, Richardson put in a layup the Giron made two free throws and drove the lane for another basket. Wesley added a short bank shot for the Scots to put them up 58-27 after the third quarter.
Lyon outscored LSU Alexanderia 24-12 in the final period. Giron hit a jumper, Ashley Reichart made a jumper from 10-feet out, Giron added two free throws, then
Paige Tate made two from the line and Byars canned a trey for Lyon on an assist from Kelley. Kelley made two free throws, then added a layup off an assist from Byars. Wesley and Tate both scored on short jumpers near the end of the game.
Gracelyn Adams and Kelsey Thaxton led LSU Alexandria with eight points each. LSU Alexandria shot 30.9 percent from the field and hit 16 percent of its three-point attempts, while shooting 60 percent at the free throw line.
Lyon made 51.8 percent of its field goals and 38.9 percent of three-pointers. The Scots were 17-of-19 at the free throw line during the game.
