No. 22 Scots Set to Host UHSP, Visit HSSU

The 22nd-ranked Lyon College women’s basketball team host UHSP on Thursday before traveling to HSSU on Saturday

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The 22nd-ranked Lyon College women's basketball team earned its biggest win of the season so far on Tuesday night as the Scots defeated (RV) Columbia College, 64-58, on the road in American Midwest Conference action. The Scots will end the week with two more conference games. Lyon will host the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before traveling to Harris-Stowe for a 1 p.m. tip-off on Saturday.

Spectators for Lyon College Athletic home events will be limited to Lyon College faculty, staff and students as well as two family members (including children) for Lyon College student-athletes competing at the event (must present card to enter). Admission is $5 per person (athletic events are free to all current students, staff, and faculty with Lyon ID.) Seating is limited and will be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis. Gates open 30 minutes prior to tip-off. Masks must be worn at all times and temperature checks upon entrance.

THE MATCHUP

LYON: The Scots improved to 5-0 (5-0 AMC) with their win on Tuesday at Columbia. Jade Giron and Paige Kelley led the Scots in the win against the Cougars. Giron posted a game-high 24 points, while Kelley recorded her first-career double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds). For the season, Giron is averaging a team-high 19.2 points per game and a team-high 8.6 rebounds per game. Kelley is second on the team in both categories at 17.6 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per game. Kelley currently leads the NAIA in assist-to-turnover ratio (9.0) and fourth in field goal percentage (67.9%). Giron ranks eighth in the NAIA in assists per game (6.2). Mari-Hanna Newsom is also averaging double figures scoring this season at 11.2 points per game and leads the Scots with 15 made three-point field goals.

UHSP: The Eutectics enter Thursday night's matchup at 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the AMC. UHSP is coming off a 62-45 win at Stephens College on Tuesday night. The Eutectics are led offensively by Grace Beyer and Elizabeth Allanach. Beyer is currently second in the NAIA in scoring at 28.2 points per game. She also ranks 10th in free-throw percentage (93%) and in total scoring (282 points). Allanach is also averaging double figures in scoring at 15.3 points per game.

HSSU: Harris-Stowe enters Saturday's matchup at 3-4 overall and 3-1 in the AMC. Ronne'zje Elliot is the lone Hornet averaging double figures scoring this season at 14.1 points per game. Taia Smith is another key player for HSSU as she is averaging 9.6 points per game to go along with a team-high 6.6 rebounds per game.

SERIES HISTORY

The Scots are 12-0 all-time against the Eutectics and 17-1 all-time against the Hornets. The Scots won the last meeting with UHSP by a score of 76-40 on Feb. 27, 2020, at home. Lyon won the last meeting against HSSU by a score of 73-50 on Jan. 30, 2020, at home.

UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS

Following Saturday's game at Harris-Stowe, the Scots will return to action on Jan. 28 for a conference road game at Williams Baptist at 5:30 p.m.
