MUSKOGEE, Okla. – The Lyon College men's basketball team looked impressive in a non-conference road game at Bacone College on Thursday night, shooting over 51% from the field and cruised to a 73-48 victory.
Lyon evened its record to 3-3 on the season, while Bacone fell to 1-12.
The Scots took an early 9-4 lead just under six minutes into the first contest after a layup by Dominique Loyd before Bacone chipped away and knotted the score at 13-13 midway through the first half. Lyon responded with a 7-0 run as a bucket by Cole Anderson gave the Scots a 20-13 lead. The Scots continued to pull away and extended their lead to 33-21 following a three-pointer by Hunter Daley. After a bucket by Bacone, Lyon answered back with a score of their own by Faris Verlasevic as the Scots led, 35-23, at the half.
The Scots took control right from the get-go of the second half and extended their lead to 53-28 with 13:52 left to play following a bucket by Chris Craig. Bacone could only pull as close as 17 points in the second half but the Scots ended the game on a 9-2 run and earned a 26-point victory.
Anderson recorded his first-career double-double as he finished with a game-high 18 points and 11 rebounds. Ray Price, Craig and Verlasevic added 10 points each in the win.
The Scots finished 29-of-56 from the floor as a team and held Bacone to just 35% shooting (17-of-48).
Lyon will come back home and return to American Midwest Conference play on Saturday when the Scots take on William Woods at 3 p.m.
