BATESVILLE, Ark. – The 22nd-ranked Lyon College women's basketball team started off its season with two road conference wins at Hannibal-LaGrange and Missouri Baptist last weekend. The Scots will now return home and host a pair of American Midwest Conference matchups this weekend. Lyon will host Stephens College on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and William Woods on Saturday at 1 p.m.

THE MATCHUPS
LYON: Senior Jade Giron had arguably the best two games to start a season than any other player in program history. Giron opened up the year with a career-high 33 points on 12-of-18 shooting in the Scots' win at Hannibal-LaGrange. In that game, she also led the team with nine rebounds, six assists and four steals. Giron followed that up with a game-high 24 points in the win at Missouri Baptist. Against the Spartans, Giron also had nine rebounds and five assists. For the season, Giron is averaging 28.5 points per game, 9.0 rebounds per game and 5.5 assists per game. She currently ranks third in the NAIA in points per game, sixth in three-point field goal percentage (58.3%) and seventh in three-point field goals made per game (3.5). Freshman Mari-Hanna Newsom also had a great start to her collegiate career. Newsome scored 11 points in her first collegiate game at HLGU and followed that up with a 21-point outing at Missouri Baptist. Newsom currently ranks third in the NAIA in three-point field goals made per game (4.0). Fellow freshman Paige Kelley is also averaging double figures scoring this season at 11.5 points per game.
SC: Stephens College enters Thursday night's matchup at 0-2 (0-2 AMC) following a 78-36 loss at (RV) Columbia College on Tuesday. Ida Pieschl is the lone player for Stephens averaging double figures scoring this season at 11.0 points per game. Pieschl is also the leading rebounder for Stephens at 6.0 rebounds per game. Cedreanna Lee leads the Stars with 18 total points and seven made field goals.
WWU: William Woods comes into Saturday's game with a record of 1-3 (1-3 AMC) after dropping its last three games. Three players are averaging double figures scoring this season for WWU, led by Natalie Thomas' team-high 15.5 points per game. Kasey Hazell is second on the team in both scoring (11.0 PPG) and rebounding (8.5 RPG). Kiyanna Rodgers is the only other Owl scoring in double figures at 10.5 points per game.
SERIES HISTORY
The Scots are 16-0 all-time against Stephens College and 18-3 against William Woods. Lyon has won the last three meetings against William Woods, including a 71-45 victory last season in the AMC Tournament Semifinals.

Following this weekend's games against Stephens and William Woods, the Scots will travel to (RV) Columbia College for another AMC matchup on Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m.
