BATESVILLE, Ark. – The top-two seeds in the American Midwest Conference Women's Basketball Championship Tournament will square off on Tuesday night in the title game as the top-ranked Lyon College women's basketball team will host No. 2-seed Freed-Hardeman at 7 p.m. in Becknell Gymnasium. This will be the fourth time the Scots will play in the championship game of the AMC Tournament, with the most recent time occurring during the 2016-17 season. The Scots have faced Freed-Hardeman in each of their three previous appearances in the championship game of the conference tournament.
ADMISSION FOR THE GAME
Admission prices for Tuesday's game will be $5 for fans 13-and-older and $2 for fans 12-and-under. Passes will not be accepted for admission into the games throughout the AMC Tournament. Lyon College students can get in free if they scan in with the Lyon App at the door.
THE MATCHUP
LYON: The Scots jumped out to an early 18-0 lead and cruised to a 71-45 win over No. 4-seed William Woods in the semifinals of the AMC Tournament this past Saturday. Liz Henderson scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Scots offensively. She also became the program's all-time leader in career three-point field goals made with 292. Jade Giron scored a career-high 19 points, while Katie Turner recorded her fourth double-double of the season as she finished with 10 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in the win against the Owls. The Scots are now 29-2 on the season and are one-win shy of tying the 2015-16 team for the most wins in a single-season in program history (30). The Scots also swept the regular-season and conference tournament titles during the 2015-16 season.
FHU: Freed-Hardeman earned the second automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship after defeating No. 3-seed Columbia College, 74-71, in overtime this past Saturday in the semifinals of the conference tournament. The Lady Lions leaned heavily on their top-two scorers against the Cougars. Alyssa LeMay scored a semifinal-high 32 points in the overtime win over Columbia. The 32 points scored are the second-most in a single game in AMC Tournament history. LeMay went 7-of-14 from the 3-point line setting a new single-game tournament record for 3-point field goals made and the second-most attempts. Haylee Croom also chipped in 22 points in the win.
SERIES HISTORY
The Scots are 10-26 all-time against the Lady Lions, including 1-2 in the AMC Tournament Championship. Lyon won both meetings this year during the regular season by scores of 58-51 (Jan. 7, 2020, in Henderson, Tenn.) and 65-62 (Feb. 18, 2020, in Batesville, Ark.).
UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
Following Tuesday's AMC Tournament Championship, the Scots and Lady Lions will play at the NAIA National Championship in Billings, Mont., on Mar. 18-24. The bracket reveal for the NAIA National Championship will take place via the NAIA Facebook page on March 11 at 6 p.m.
