GULF SHORES, Ala. – The (RV) Lyon College softball team earned a victory over Brenau University, 12-3, and fell to No. 8 University of Mobile, 8-0 in the opening day of the Gulf Shores Tournament.
(RV) Lyon moves to 12-5 on the season. Brenau University goes to 4-5, while No. 8 University of Mobile improves to 8-4.
Game One: (RV) Lyon 12, Brenau 3 (5 Inn.)
The Scots opened up the scoring in the top of the second inning. With two outs in the frame,
Anna Beth Conditt crushed a 2-run home run over the center field fence, scoring
Mikayla Mullen from first and giving Lyon a 2-0 lead. After a
Siobhan Taylor double,
Megan Micke launched a 2-run home run over the left field fence, doubling Lyon's advantage.
Brenau would score a run in the bottom half of the inning as Steffanie Redman scored on an RBI single by Shelton Kendrix.
Lyon sent 12 batters to the plate and scored eight runs in the top of the third inning.
Riley Shaw started the big inning with a 2-RBI double to center field, giving Lyon a 6-1 advantage. A couple batters later,
Siobhan Taylor laced a 2-RBI single back up the middle. An
Addison Harmon walk and a 2-RBI single by
Kassidy Robinson extended Lyon's lead to 10.
Addison Harmon capped off the inning as she scored on an errant throw by the shortstop, allowing Lyon to take a 12-1 lead.
Brenau scored a pair of runs in the fifth on a 2-RBI double by Madison Oliver, but the Scots had firm control on this one as Lyon went on to defeat Brenau by a score of 12-3 in six innings.
Offensively, Lyon was led by a plethora of Scots.
Kassidy Robinson,
Riley Shaw, and
Siobhan Taylor each collected a pair of hits in the contest, while
Megan Micke and
Anna Beth Conditt both crushed 2-run home runs. Lyon was led in the circle by
Shyanne Pedroza. Pedroza earned the complete game victory, while striking out three.
Game Two: No. 8 University of Mobile 8, (RV) Lyon 0 (6 Inn.)
The game remained scoreless until the third inning. The University of Mobile scratched a pair of runs across in the frame, giving the Rams a 2-0 lead.
The Rams would tack on two more runs in the fourth inning, doubling their advantage.
The Scots would try to answer back, but were unsuccessful as the University of Mobile scored four runs in the sixth inning, defeating Lyon by a score of 8-0.
Lyon was led offensively by
Cheyenne Herrera as she tallied a pair of hits in the contest.
Katelyn Platt threw all six innings for the Scots, striking out one.

Lyon continues play in the Gulf Shores Tournament tomorrow as the Scots face No. 20 Morningside College at 2:00 p.m. and Blue Mountain College at 7:00 p.m.
