BATESVILLE, Ark. – The 21
st-ranked Lyon College baseball team and eighth-ranked Freed-Hardeman University spilt their doubleheader on Tuesday at Fred Wann Field. The Scots shutout the Lions in the first game, 3-0, before FHU evened the series with a 7-2 victory in the second game of the day.
The Scots moved to 18-6 (9-2 AMC), while FHU now stands at 17-5 (9-2 AMC).
Game One: #21 Lyon 3, #8 FHU 0
The game remained scoreless until the top of the third inning. With two outs and runners on second and third base,
Alan West stepped to the plate. West roped a single up the middle, plating
Ryan Clack and
Jake Michener to give the Scots a 2-0 lead.
Lyon tacked on another run in the fifth inning when a
Jake Michener sac fly to right field brought home
Chris Lara from third base.
Lex Meinderts had it all working on the mound today as he struck out 11 Freed-Hardeman batters, en route to throwing a one-hit complete game shutout to give the Scots the victory, 3-0.
Seven Scots recorded a hit in the ballgame as
Alan West led the charge with a clutch two-out RBI in the third inning.
Game Two: #8 FHU 7, #21 Lyon 2
Freed-Hardeman University opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning by sending ten batters to the plate, tallying six runs.
The Lions added another run in the second frame on a Cam Palmeter single to extend FHU's lead, 7-0.
The Scots responded in the fourth inning with a run of their own on a
Cameron Hockle RBI single to score
Alan West from second base and trim into FHU's advantage, 7-1.
Lyon scored another run in the seventh inning on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 7-2. However, that is the closest the Scots would get it in this one as FHU defeated Lyon, 7-2.
Marcelo Terrazas threw 7.1 innings in relief, while only allowing one run. Offensively,
Jake Michener led the Scots as he went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.
