COLUMBIA, Mo. – The 11
th-ranked Lyon College women's basketball team limited Stephens College to just 31.5% from the field as the Scots stormed past the Stars inside the John and Mary Silverthorne Arena tonight, 77-46. With the win, Lyon improves to 20-2 overall and 16-1 in the American Midwest Conference, while Stephens College slides to 6-17 overall and 1-16 in conference play.
With the score tied in the early going,
Kristen Baham knocked in a three-point basket to put the visitors from Batesville up, 5-2. The Scots continued to extend their lead when
Kaleah Davis drained a shot from behind the arc to put Lyon up by a score of 18-11 at the end of the first quarter.
The Stars responded by cutting the deficit to five, 21-16, midway through the second quarter. Lyon, though, ended the quarter on a 15-3 run to extend their advantage, 36-19. A pair of free throws by
Liz Henderson capped off the big run for the Scots.
Lyon continued to take control of this game in the third period as the Scots outscored the Stars by 11 points through the frame. Another three-point basket by
Kaleah Davis put Lyon ahead by 28 points, 58-30, as the third quarter buzzer sounded.
The Scots continued to frustrate the Stephens College's offense as the visitors from Batesville earned the conference victory, 77-46.
Alley Edwards led the way for the Scots as she recorded a career-high 15 points, while
Kaleah Davis and
Katie Turner poured in 14 points apiece. Lyon shot 45.6% from the field and forced 18 turnovers.
The Scots will return to the court for a conference tilt against (RV) William Woods University on Saturday. Tip-off for the matchup between No. 11 Lyon and (RV) William Woods University is set for Feb. 8 at 1:00 p.m. in Fulton, Missouri.
