No. 21 Scots Prepare to Host HLG

The 21st-ranked Lyon College baseball team will continue American Midwest Conference play this weekend at home against Hannibal-LaGrange

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The 21st-ranked Lyon College baseball team will return to American Midwest Conference play when the Scots host Hannibal-LaGrange in a three-game series this weekend at Fred Wann Field. The Scots and Trojans will open up the series with a doubleheader on Friday at noon. The series finale will take place on Saturday at noon.

THE MATCHUP

The Scots split a midweek doubleheader at Blue Mountain College on Tuesday and moved to 12-4 on the season. BMC won game one of the twin bill, 6-5, before the Scots took the nightcap, 4-3.

Kylan Barnett continues to lead the Scots offensively in the early part of the season. Barnett is batting .462 (24-for-52), with six doubles, two triples and four home runs. Barnett leads the team with 19 RBI and ranks second with 16 runs scored.

The Scots will likely start Lex Meinderts, Ryan Porras and Alan West on the mound against the Trojans. Meinderts is 3-0 on the year and has a 0.61 ERA. In 14.2 innings pitched, Meinderts has struck out 18 batters while holding opponents to a .204 batting average against. Porras is 2-1 on the season with a 3.00 ERA. Porras has struck out 30 batters over 24.0 innings pitched. West is 2-1 on the mound with a 2.88 ERA. He leads the team in innings pitched (25.0) and strikeouts (33).

Hannibal-LaGrange enters the weekend at 6-6 on the season. This will be the first conference series of the season for the Trojans.

Edwin Betancourt is the top hitter in the Trojans' lineup through their first 11 games. Betancourt is batting .389 (14-for-36), with four doubles. He has driven in nine runs and scored eight times. Jacob Bone leads HLG with 11 RBI, with Matthew Lawson has scored a team-high 10 runs.

VJ Vinson, Jorden Billings and Briley Burrow will likely make up the starting rotation for HLG this weekend. Vinson is 2-0 with a 3.14 ERA. Vinson leads the team with 14.1 innings pitched. Billings is 2-1 with a 5.84 ERA. Billings and Vinson are tied for the team lead with 14 strikeouts. Burrow is 1-1 with an 8.38 ERA.

The Scots are 21-2 all-time against the Trojans. Lyon won the final two games of a three-game set last year in Hannibal, Mo.

NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
Following this weekend's series against HLG, the Scots will continue AMC play with a three-game series at Columbia College on Mar. 7-8.
