BATESVILLE, Ark. The 21st-ranked Lyon College baseball team scored 20 total runs between the final two games in its series against Harris-Stowe as the Scots completed the series sweep of the Hornets with a pair of wins by scores of 10-9 and 10-0 on Saturday afternoon at Fred Wann Field.

The Scots improved to 11-3 (3-0 American Midwest Conference), while HSSU fell to 9-12 (0-3 AMC).

Game One: #21 Lyon 10, HSSU 9 (7 Innings)

The Hornets broke the scoring column first with three runs in the top of the first before the Scots answered back with six unanswered runs over the next four innings. Jake Michener led off the bottom of the first with a single to right before Kylan Barnett drew a walk to put to runners aboard. A wild pitch allowed the pair to move up an extra 90-feet before Troy Strack delivered a two-out, two-run double into the gap in right-center field.

Cole McSwain started another rally for the Scots in the bottom of the second with a one-out walk. An error by the Hornets allowed Dustin Caplett to reach base as McSwain was able to move up to third on the play. Barnett followed with a sacrifice fly to left before Alan West and Aaron Hurd drew back-to-back walks, which gave the Scots a 4-3 lead.

The Scots added a run in both the third and fourth innings. Michener plated a run in the bottom of the third with an RBI-double as Caplett drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the fourth.

HSSU scratched a run across in the top of the fifth on an RBI-single by Matt Janocik before Troy Strack delivered a three-run home run in the bottom half of the frame to extend the Scots' lead to 9-4.

The Hornets rallied all the way back to tie the game at 9-9 with five runs in the top of the sixth before West plated Michener with an RBI-single through the hole at short for what turned out to be the game-winning run.

Brock Beacham earned the win as he improved to 2-0 on the mound. Beacham allowed one unearned run on one hit over 1.2 innings of relief.

Michener finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. West and Strack collected two hits each, while Strack drove in five runs in the contest.

Game Two: #21 Lyon 10, HSSU 0 (8 Innings)

The Scots scored 10 runs on 16 hits in the nightcap, while West took care of the rest on the mound as the Scots earned a 10-0 win in eight innings to complete the series sweep.

Caplett gave the Scots an early 1-0 lead with an RBI-single in the bottom of the second before Barnett blasted a solo home run to right in the top of the third to extend the Scots' lead to 2-0.

Michener reached base with a two-out double in the bottom of the fourth before Barnett hit his second home run of the game, this time a two-run shot, that gave Lyon a 4-0 advantage.

Hurd opened up the bottom of the fifth with a lead-off home run before Caplett added an RBI-single later in the inning.

Lyon added two more runs in the sixth inning and one more in the bottom of the seventh before the Scots walked in off in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Chris Lara to plate Strack.

West was in complete command on the mound as he improved to 2-1 on the year. West tossed seven scoreless innings and allowed five hits while striking out seven. Morry Watson shut down the Hornets in order with a pair of strikeouts in the eighth.

Michener, Barnett and Caplett all collected three hits in the game, while Hurd and Strack added a pair of hits each.

The Scots will return to action on Tuesday for their first two road games of the season as they travel to Blue Mountain College for a doubleheader. First pitch of Tuesday's doubleheader at BMC is set for noon.
