Scots Take Two on Sunday

Lyon College Softball defeated Peru State College and Bethany College on Sunday

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College softball team earned a pair of victories on the last day of the Lyon College Tri-Match today. The Scots defeated Peru State College, 9-0, and Bethany College (Kan.), 12-10.   

Lyon moves to 7-1 on the season. Bethany College goes to 4-5, while Peru State College falls to 0-4.

Game One: Lyon 9, Peru State 0 (5 Inn.)
The Scots opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Megan Micke led off the frame with a single up the middle. After a sac bunt by Addison Harmon, Kassidy Robinson launched a 2-run home run over the center field fence, giving Lyon a 2-0 lead.

Lyon tacked on another run in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI triple by Addison Harmon, plating Megan Micke.

Cheyenne Herrera led off the bottom of the third inning with a single to right field. After a sac bunt by Mikayla Mullen, Anna Beth Conditt launched a 2-run home run over the left field fence, extending Lyon's lead to five. With two outs in the frame, Megan Micke laced an RBI double to right center, plating Siobhan Taylor. Addison Harmon, then, followed up with an RBI single, scoring Micke and giving Lyon a 7-0 lead.   

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Siobhan Taylor hit a one-out single to left field. With two outs in the frame, Megan Micke crushed a 2-run home run over the left field fence, earning Lyon a 9-0 run-rule victory over Peru State College on Sunday.

Shyanne Pedroza was dominant in the circle as she tossed a complete game shutout, en route to her fourth victory of the season. Megan Micke led the way for the Scots as she went 3-for-3 with a single, double, and a home run. Micke, also, tallied three RBI's, four runs scored, and a stolen base in the contest.

Game Two: Lyon 12, Bethany 10
The Swedes got on the scoreboard first as Ciera Flores led off the game with a solo home run, giving Bethany College a 1-0.  
In the bottom of the first inning, Addison Harmon and Kassidy Robinson delivered a pair of one-out singles. Riley Shaw, then, slapped a 2-RBI single to left field, plating Harmon and Robinson. Anna Beth Conditt stepped to the plate with two outs and crushed a 3-run home run over the left field fence, giving Lyon a 5-1 lead.

Bethany College would answer back with a run of their own on a sac fly by Samantha Quezada, trimming Lyon's advantage to three.

In the top of the third inning, Bethany College sent ten batters to the plate and scored six runs, capped off by a 2-run home run by Samantha Quezada.

The Swedes scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning on a 2-out 2-RBI single by Ciera Flores, giving Bethany a 10-5 lead.

The Scots would answer back in the bottom of the fourth inning. Madison Sansom delivered a lead-off single right back up the middle. With one out, Megan Micke legged out a bunt single. Addison Harmon, then, beat out an infield single to load the bases. Next, Kassidy Robinson drew a bases loaded walk, cutting the deficit to four. After a wild pitch allowed Micke to scamper home, Riley Shaw delivered a 2-RBI single to center, scoring Harmon and Robinson. With two outs in the frame, Mikayla Mullen ripped a single right back up the middle, scoring Shaw and knotting the game at 10.

The score remained tied at 10 until the bottom of the sixth inning. Riley Shaw crushed a solo home run over the left field fence, giving Lyon an 11-10 lead. Anna Beth Conditt added an insurance run on an RBI double to left field, extending Lyon's lead to two.

The Swedes loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but Sabrina Lowe was up to the task as she induced a fielder's choice to end the game and earn the Scots a 12-10 victory over Bethany College on Sunday.  

Sabrina Lowe pitched masterfully in relief as she threw 4.1 innings, while only allowing two runs and striking out one. Lyon was led offensively by Riley Shaw as she was 3-for-4 with 5 RBI's, 3 runs scored, and the go-ahead solo home run.

The Scots will travel to Conway to take on NCAA Division I University of Central Arkansas on Tuesday, February 18 at 5:30 p.m.
