BATESVILLE, Ark. The 21st-ranked Lyon College baseball team split the final two games of its series against No. 12 LSU-Shreveport on Sunday afternoon at Fred Wann Field. The Scots won game one of Sunday's twin bill, 5-2, before falling, 6-3, in the nightcap.

The Scots moved to 8-3 on the season, while LSUS now stands at 10-1.

Game One: #21 Lyon 5, #12 LSUS 2

Lex Meinderts was in complete control right from the beginning as he improved to 2-0 on the year. Meinderts allowed just one run on six hits while striking out six over six innings pitched while the offense took care of the rest for the Scots.

Lyon took an early 1-0 lead over LSUS with a run in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a Pilot error. LSUS quickly tied the game up in the top of the third, but that was all the offense they would get against Meinderts.

The Scots broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Aaron Hurd started off the big inning before he came around to score on an RBI-double by Troy Strack. Joe Weatherford followed with an RBI-double of his own to plate the second run of the inning for the Scots. Tristan Buschow reached base on an error following the back-to-back doubles before Chris Lara added another run with a safety squeeze. The Scots loaded the bases after Jake Michener got hit by a pitch and Kylan Barnett was intentionally walked. A wild pitch allowed another run to score as the Scots took a 5-1 lead.

LSUS added one final run in the top of the seventh but Brock Beacham struck out the final batter he faced to seal the victory.

Strack and Weatherford both finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Game Two: #12 LSUS 6, #21 Lyon 3

The Pilots kept the Scots from splitting the four-game tilt with a 6-3 victory in the final game of the series, which was called after eight innings due to darkness.

LSUS took an early 1-0 lead over the Scots with a run in the top of the first on an RBI-single by Ryne Ray before Lyon responded with two runs in the bottom of the third. Michener started the frame with a lead-off walk before he went from first to third on a single by Barnett. Alan West plated Michener with an RBI-single to right-center field before Hurd got hit by a pitch to load the bases. Weatherford gave the Scots a 2-1 lead later in the inning with a sacrifice fly.

The Pilots overtook the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth before the Scots tied the game with a run in the bottom half of the frame after Weatherford got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

LSUS scored three unanswered runs over the final two innings to take the series finale, 6-3.

West (1-1) suffered the loss on the mound as he allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out seven over seven innings pitched.

Barnett and West led the Scots offensively with two hits each.

The Scots will host Bethel (Tenn.) on Tuesday afternoon at Fred Wann Field. First pitch is set for noon.
