Scots Sweep Day One of Lyon College Tri-Match

Lyon College Softball defeated Bethany College and Peru State College on Saturday

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College softball team earned a pair of victories in the opening day of the Lyon College Tri-Match today. The Scots defeated Bethany College (Kan.), 8-6, and Peru State College, 3-1.   

Lyon moves to 5-1 on the season. Bethany College goes to 3-4, while Peru State College falls to 0-2.

Game One: Lyon 8, Bethany (Kan.) 6
The Scots opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Megan Micke, Addison Harmon, and Kassidy Robinson all reached base to open the game. Riley Shaw, then, followed with a sac fly to score Micke from third and give Lyon a 1-0 lead. Next, Cheyenne Herrera ripped a single into left field, plating Harmon and Robinson, giving Lyon a 3-0 advantage.  

The Swedes used a solo home run from Ciera Flores and a grand slam from Brianna Rodriguez to take a 5-3 lead after one inning of play.

The game remained 5-3 in favor of Bethany until the third inning. Riley Shaw led off the frame with a triple to right field. Cheyenne Herrera, then, crushed a 2-run home run over the center field fence, knotting the game at five.

Megan Micke opened the fourth inning with a single up the middle. After stealing third, Riley Shaw hit her second sac fly of the game, giving Lyon a 6-5 lead. The Scots would score one more run in the inning as Kassidy Robinson scampered home on a bobble by the Bethany shortstop, giving Lyon a 7-5 advantage.

The Scots scored a run in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Megan Micke, plating Camryn Long.  

The Swedes put the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh, but Shyanne Pedroza was up to the test as she got Brianna Rodriguez to fly out to center field, earning the Scots an 8-6 victory over Bethany College in the opening game of the Lyon College Tri-Match.

Shyanne Pedroza picked up the complete game victory, while striking out four batters. Megan Micke and Cheyenne Herrera led the way for the Scots offensively as Micke went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, one RBI, and one stolen base, while Herrera tallied three RBI's and two hits in the contest.

Game Two: Lyon 3, Peru State 1
The game remained scoreless until the top of the third inning. Camryn Long opened the frame with an infield single. Megan Micke, then, crushed a double into center field, scoring Long from first and giving Lyon a 1-0 lead.

The Scots would scratch another run across in the top of the fourth inning. Anna Beth Conditt delivered a one-out RBI single, doubling Lyon's lead.

In the top of the sixth inning, Anna Beth Conditt tattooed a solo home run over the center field fence, giving Lyon a 3-0 lead.

The Bobcats put the tying run on base after an RBI single by Alyiah Franco, but Katelyn Platt maintained her composure and struck out the final two batters, earning the Scots a 3-1 victory over Peru State on Saturday.

Katelyn Platt picked up the complete game victory, striking out a game-high 10 Bobcats. Offensively, Lyon was led by Anna Beth Conditt as she was 3-for-3 in the contest with two RBI's and one run scored.

The Scots conclude the Lyon College Tri-Match as they take on Peru State College at 11 a.m. and Bethany College at 1:00 p.m.
