BATESVILLE, Ark. The 21st-ranked Lyon College baseball team dropped the first two games of a four-game series on Saturday afternoon at home against No. 12 LSU-Shreveport by scores of 10-6 and 7-4. The Scots will look to return the favor and earn a split in the series when the two teams meet up for another doubleheader beginning at noon at Fred Wann Field.

LSUS improved to 9-0 following the two wins on Saturday, while the Scots dropped to 7-2

Game One: #12 LSUS 10, #21 Lyon 6

The Pilots jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning before the Scots cut the deficit in half in the bottom half of the frame. Jake Michener got hit by a pitch to start the frame before the Pilots recorded two quick outs. Cameron Hockle drew a walk to keep the inning alive before Aaron Hurd doubled to left to plate Michener. A passed ball later in the inning allowed Hockle to scamper home and pulled the Scots within two at 4-2.

After each team put a run across in the second inning, the Pilots added another run in the top of the third on a solo home run by Taylor Fajardo.

The Scots rallied back to tie the game at 6-6 with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Tristan Buschow and Michener reached base ahead of a three-run home run by Kylan Barnett that cleared the wall in right.

LSUS responded with four unanswered runs over the final three innings to take game one, 10-6.

Ethan Denney suffered the loss as he allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits over one inning of relief.

Game Two: #12 LSUS 7, #21 Lyon 4

A five-run second inning by LSUS proved to be the difference in the nightcap as the Scots attempted a comeback but came up just short, 7-4.

A bases-loaded walk by Buschow plated a run in the bottom of the third before both teams scratched across a run in the fourth. LSUS added to its total with a run in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Cain Castille before the Scots attempted one final comeback in the bottom of the sixth. Chris Lara and Hurd started the rally with back-to-back singles as Michener plated Lara on a sacrifice fly. Alan West doubled home Ryan Clack, who reentered for Hurd, to trim the deficit to 7-4, but LSUS closed the door the rest of the way.

Ryan Porras suffered the loss as he allowed seven runs (four earned) on five hits over five innings of work. Morry Watson kept the Scots in the game as he tossed two innings of scoreless relief.

Troy Strack and Barnett collected two hits each in the game for the Scots.
