THE MATCHUP
The Scots are coming off a 40-22 finish and will play their first three games of the season this weekend against the Eagles.

Lyon returns its top two hitters from a season ago in Kylan Barnett and Alan West. Barnett had a strong season at the plate last year as he finished second on the team with a .362 batting average. Barnett went 80-for-221 at the plate with 18 doubles, five triples, eight home runs and 62 RBI. He also scored 65 times. Barnett was named to the 2020 NAIA Baseball Preseason All-America Team after earning All-America honorable mention accolades at the end of last season. West produced a strong freshman campaign for the Scots in 2019. West led the team with a .418 batting average as he went 79-for-189 at the plate during the season. West collected 17 doubles to go along with three home runs. He drove in 43 runs and scored 40 times. West was 11-for-11 in stolen base attempts. He was named as the American Midwest Conference Freshman of the Year.

Marcelo Terrazas returns to the Scots' pitching staff after earning Second-Team All-AMC honors last season as a sophomore. Terrazas finished 6-6 with a 3.65 ERA in 2019. He also had one save. Terrazas led the Scots with 101.0 innings pitched. In 15 starts, Terrazas threw seven complete games and one shutout. Reese Chovanec and Ryan Porras are two other arms returning to the Scots' pitching staff after both players earned five wins last season. Chovanec went 5-0 on the bump in 11 appearances. In 33.1 innings, he struck out 27 batters. He limited opposing batters to a .238 batting average. Porras went 5-5 on the mound in 15 starts. In 73 innings pitched last season, Porras struck out 72 batters.

Oklahoma Wesleyan swept a three-game series at home last weekend against Bacone to open up the year.

Cody Muncy had a big series against Bacone last weekend as he batted .667 (8-for-12), with one double, one home run, four RBI's and five runs scored. Tucker Holden and Isaac Wersland drove in a team-high five runs each in the series.

Jacob Williams, Dawson Willis and Cole Allen will likely make up the starting rotation for OKWU this weekend. Williams tossed three shutout innings of three-hit ball in his first start of the season. Willis struck out four batters over 2.2 scoreless innings while surrendering just one hit in his start against Bacone. Allen allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits while striking out four over four innings of work in his first start of the season.

OKWU holds a 16-11 advantage in the all-time series against the Scots. Lyon took the final two games of a three-game series at home last year against the Eagles by scores of 5-4 and 8-7.

NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
Following this weekend's series against OKWU, the Scots will host the University of St. Francis (Ill.) in a three-game series next Saturday and Sunday. Former baseball coach and champion of Lyon College Athletics Fred Wann will be honored Saturday, Feb. 8, when Scots Field will be officially re-named Fred Wann Field. The dedication ceremony will be held prior to the Scots' doubleheader against the University of St. Francis (Ill.).
