BATESVILLE, Ark. – The 18th-ranked Lyon College women's basketball team will return to action after an extended break and host its first game of the New Year on Saturday afternoon against Central Baptist College. The Scots and Mustangs are set to tip-off at 1 p.m. inside Becknell Gymnasium.
THE MATCHUP
LYON: The Scots last played on Dec. 21, when they defeated William Woods, 53-34, in an American Midwest Conference clash to improve to 11-1 (7-0 AMC). Madison Riley continues to lead the Scots in scoring this season as she is averaging 16.5 points per game entering Saturday's contest. Riley finished with 13 points against William Woods and moved into sixth all-time in program history for career points with 1,430. Riley needs 21 more points to pass Brandi Love, who scored 1,450 points during her career from 1990-94, for fifth all-time in program history. Liz Henderson led the Scots with a game-high 15 points in the win against WWU and improved her scoring average to 13.8 points per game. Henderson moved into 10th all-time for career points with 1,358 following her performance against the Owls.
CBC: Central Baptist College enters the weekend at 8-2 (5-2 AMC). The Mustangs are coming off a 69-35 win against Stephens College on Dec. 21. Holly Allen leads a quartet of Mustangs averaging double figures in scoring this season at 15.0 points per game. Kory Westerman is second on the team in both scoring (11.3 PPG) and rebounding (7.5 rebounds per game). Alexis Augustus scored 11 points in her lone game of the season, while Sierra Carrier is averaging 10.1 points per game to go along with her team-leading 7.7 rebounds per game average.
SERIES HISTORY
The Scots are a perfect 20-0 all-time against Central Baptist College. The Scots defeated the Mustangs, 71-57, in the last meeting between the two teams on Feb. 12, 2019 in Conway, Ark.
UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
Following Saturday's game against Central Baptist College, the Scots will travel to No. 9 Freed-Hardeman on Tuesday night for a battle for the top spot in the American Midwest Conference standings.
