LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The tenth-ranked Lyon College women's wrestling team continued to impress at the NWCA National Duals as the Scots defeated the University of Providence to take home seventh place this afternoon.
After losing a close bout against No. 6 Wayland Baptist University, 29-17, the Scots squared off against No. 8 University of Providence in the seventh-place match.
Lyon got down early, 5-0, but
Emma De Brum cut into the University of Providence's lead by earning a hard-fought decision, 6-4, against Lana Hunt.
Jasmine Hernandez and
Ashley Whetzal kept it rolling for the visitors from Batesville as they both picked up victories over their opponents, giving Lyon a 12-7 advantage. After University of Providence knotted the match at 12 apiece,
Elissa Douglass took down Jenna Awana to earn the pin and pick up five points for the Scots. The eighth-ranked team would not go down quietly as they once again tied the match at 17 apiece. However, the Scots closed the match with two straight victories by
Kelani Corbett and
Sierra Alfonso to earn the win, 27-17, and clinch seventh place at the NWCA National Duals this afternoon.

Lyon will travel to Nebraska to compete in the York College Open on Jan. 18.
