Owls Stymie Scots in AMC Match

The Scots dropped a conference road match against William Woods University tonight

FULTON, Mo. – The Lyon College volleyball team put their 2-0 conference record on the line tonight in a road match against William Woods University. The Scots fought hard all night, but the Owls from William Woods University were too much for the visitors from Batesville as WWU swept Lyon (25-18, 25-18, 25-15).

Lyon falls to 10-6 on the season and 2-1 in AMC play. The Owls improve to 11-11 overall and 2-1 in conference action.   
 
GAME FLOW 
WWU rattled off the first six points of the match to take a 6-0 advantage early in the first frame. The Scots tried to cut into the lead, but the closest they could get was a five-point deficit as the Owls took the first set, 25-18.

WWU continued their terrific play in the second stanza as the Owls jumped out to another early lead, 8-2. Lyon was able to cut into WWU's lead after an Ellie Embry ace trimmed the Owls' advantage to just four points, 14-10. WWU, though, took back the momentum as they converted on the next four rallies to extend their lead at 18-10. The Owls would go on to win the second set by the same score they won the first, 25-18.

The third set was identical to the first two sets of the match as the Owls sprinted out to an early advantage, 10-2. The Scots would string together a few points in a row to make the score 16-10 after a Kendra Davidson ace. Lyon tried to cut into WWU's lead throughout the remainder of the frame, but the Owls were up to the task. WWU took the third set by a score of 25-15 to complete the sweep.

KEY STATISTICS
Kendra Kelley tallied a team-best 8 kills in the contest, while Michayla Shanks added 7.
Kendra Davidson led the Scots in aces as she recorded a pair.
- WWU bested the Scots in kills, 38-23, and blocks, 12-5.

WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SCOTS
Lyon will return to action tomorrow against No. 3 Park University. The match between the Scots and Pirates will begin at 1:00 p.m. inside the Breckon Sports Center.
